2004 "Botan" (Peonies)
An exhibit at the 36th Japan Fine Arts Exhibition
176x154cm Mashi (Linen Paper)
Every year, around late April, I eagerly return to my hometown of Nara to meet the peony flowers at the Hase Temple. The peonies welcome me with their bountiful bouquet of lustrous and rich colors. I am particularly fond of the large coral colored blossoms, which remind me of graceful young maidens. This time, I attempted to make that color the center of focus, surrounded by the other colorful peony blossoms, each rivaling the other in beauty. |
